ABOUT KURSAAL WARD

Kursaal is one of seventeen wards in the borough of Southend-On-Sea.

Kursaal ward has a population of over 11,000 residents, out of a total population of over 180,000 in Southend.

The borders of the ward are Victoria Road, Eastern Esplanade, Marine Parade, A1160, B1015, Swanage Road, Branksome Road, Stornaway Road, Ilfracombe Road, Surbiton Avenue, Riveria Drive and Victoria Road, so anyone who lives within this area will be voting for candidates standing in this ward.

Each ward has three Councillors, however, only one seat is up for election at a time.

Currently all seats are held by Labour Councillors.

Turnout for the local elections in 2021 was only around 24%.  One of the goals of the next election campaign is to increase the turnout.

Kursaal is such an interesting part of Southend as it includes lots of independent businesses, the seafront and City Beach, Southend East train station, and the historic Southchurch Hall Park.  It is also a ward that suffers from political and economic neglect with many residents having to endure difficult circumstances.
